Abstract

The [Cd(SO<inf>4</inf>)(C<inf>7</inf>H<inf>7</inf>NO<inf>2</inf>) <inf>2</inf>(H<inf>2</inf>O)<inf>2</inf>]<inf>n</inf> complex has been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic IR, EPR and X-ray diffraction technique. The compound crystallizes in space group P2<inf>1</inf>/c. The Cd(II) ion is octahedrally coordinated by two aqua, two methylisonicotinate and two sulfate ligands. The methylisonicotinate ligands are N-coordinated, while the sulfate ligands bridge the metal centers, forming the one-dimensional chain structure along the crystallographic [1 0 0] direction. The invidual chains are linked by O-H···O hydrogen bonds. The magnetic environments of Cu2+ doped [Cd(SO<inf>4</inf>)(C<inf>7</inf>H<inf>7</inf>NO <inf>2</inf>)<inf>2</inf>(H<inf>2</inf>O)<inf>2</inf>]<inf>n</inf> complex have been identified by EPR technique.
