Abstract

In this study gamma irradiated NaHCO<inf>3</inf>, CsHCO<inf>3</inf> and Na<inf>2</inf>CO<inf>3</inf> were investigated at room temperature. The radicals induced by gamma irradiation in NaHCO<inf>3</inf> were found to be C(·)O<inf>3</inf>/-, HC(·)O<inf>3</inf> and C(·)O<inf>2</inf>/-; in CsHCO<inf>3</inf> the species were attributed to HC(·)O<inf>3</inf>; and in Na<inf>2</inf>CO<inf>3</inf> to C(·)O<inf>3</inf>/- and C(·)O<inf>2</inf>/- radicals. The hyperfine parameters for the hydrogen in HC(·)O<inf>3</inf>, and the 13C nucleus in C(·)<inf>2</inf>/- radical have been determined.
