Abstract
Financialization, which is an important place for institutions and individuals, gained speed and depth with the effect of globalization and liberalization in the last forty years and reached international dimensions. In this study, the aim is to examine the financialization, the symptoms of the financialization, the financialization process in the world and in Turkey, the crises lived with the financialization and to investigate the symptoms of the financialization in the non-financial corporations and also the relationship between capital expenditure and the financialization. Although many studies have been in the literature, they have examined the financialization in macroeconomic level. The number of researches at the micro level, it means firm level, is quite low. In this study, an econometric analysis was located to investigate the relationship between the financialization and the capital expenditures in 155 non-financial corporations in the manufacturing industry registered to the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) in Turkey. In addition, an analysis was made on the basis of sub-sectors of the manufacturing industry sector. The scope of the analysis is limited to the manufacturing industry sector, which has the highest number of corporations. This study concluded that the econometric results have supported the expected negative relationship between financialization and capital expenditure for non-financial corporations in the manufacturing sector in Turkey. When analyzed by sub-sectors it was found that 'chemistry, petroleum' is the sub-sector most affected by the negative relationship between financialization and capital expenditure. In some sub-sectors it was concluded that firms had long-term borrowings in their investments and this indebtedness had a positive effect on capital expenditure despite financial fragility.
