Publication: İnteraktif Bilgilendirme Grafiği ve Dijital Mecralarda Çatalhöyük Yerleşkesinin İnfografik Tasarım Çözümlemeleri
Abstract
Infographics are tools that bring together various elements such as graphics, diagrams and text to present complex information in a more understandable and visual way. Also known as information graphics, they are preferred in many areas such as education, health, social media, culture, tourism and scientific research. They can be static, dynamic, interactive, statistical, VR and AR based depending on the purpose of use. While static infographics are used in printed materials, dynamic, interactive, VR and AR infographics interact with the user in digital environments in an interactive or video form. In interactive infographics, users can directly intervene in the content and experience the process of discovering information firsthand. Infographics, which are an important tool in visual communication design, play an effective and transformative role in the transfer and reinterpretation of cultural heritage in digital media, especially thanks to their interactive structures. The Neolithic Çatalhöyük settlement within the borders of Konya province is the focus of this study. Through research on the historical, cultural and symbolic values of the settlement, topics such as social life, art, rituals and architectural structure were discussed in detail. In the application process, it was aimed to represent the Çatalhöyük settlement in a digital environment through an interactive infographic. In this direction, the Mental Canvas application, which can create multi-layered structures and is based on user interaction, was used. The Mental Canvas application was used as the basis in the design process, and the illustrations were produced using the Procreate software. Spatial structures, architectural elements, symbols and daily life objects belonging to Çatalhöyük were revisualized with an illustrative approach based on real archaeological data. In the graphic design process, elements such as drawing technique, color palette and typography selection were shaped with conscious choices; thus, it was aimed to create an atmosphere belonging to the Neolithic period. The interactive infographic design developed within the scope of the thesis presents an innovative approach to the transfer of cultural heritage in a digital environment by allowing information about archaeological sites to be presented in a more accessible, visual and user-oriented way.
