Abstract

The cyano-bridged heterometallic complex, [Cd(pea)<inf>2</inf>Ni(μ-CN) <inf>4</inf>]<inf>n</inf>, (1), (pea = 2-phenylethylamine), has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrational (FT-IR and Raman) spectroscopy, elemental and thermal analyses. The crystallographic analysis reveals that the crystal structure of the complex consists of a corrugated two dimensional network, in which the coordination environment of the Cd(II) 7 ion possesses a distorted octahedral geometry, whereas that of Ni(II) has a square planar geometry. The spectral features are consistent with pea coordination to the cadmium ion of the [Cd-Ni(μ-CN) <inf>4</inf>]<inf>n</inf>, layers as a monodentate ligand. © by Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag, München.
