Abstract
In this study, natural gamma radioactivity levels were determined by gamma ray spectrometry method in the soil samples of Samsun city center. .natural radioactivity leves of total 38 soil samples were measured with two different gamma spectrometry systems, first one has HPGe detector and other has NaI(Tl) detector. In the analysis carried out NaI(Tl) gamma spectrometry system, the average activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs were determined as 45,13±4,21 Bq/kg, 40,68±2,77 Bq/kg, 364,65±22,25 Bq/kg and 14,79±1,9 Bq/kg, respectively. On the other hand, measurement with HPGe gamma spectrometry system showed that average activity consantrations of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs were 18,64±1,96Bq/kg, 22,06±4,18 Bq/kg, 525,07±22,81 Bq/kg ve14,85±1,32 Bq/kg, respectively. From the gamma analysis of soil samples, average value of the absorbed gamma dose rates in air were calculated as 61,5±4,66 nG/h (with NaI(Tl) system) and 45,28±4,43 nG/h (with HPGe system); average value of the external annual effective dose rates were also calculated as 75±5,7µSv/y (with NaI(Tl) system) and 56±5,4 µSv/y (with HPGe system). The world average annual effective dose rates and absorbed dose values were 70 ?Sv/y and 60 nGy/h, respectively. The results obtained by using HPGe-detector system were lower than the world average values. However, the results obtained by using NaI (Tl) detector system were higher than world average concentrations.Key Words: Natural radioactivity, soil sample, gamma spectrometry, annual effective dose
