Abstract
In this study, the interaction of sulfadiazine (SDZ), one of the sulfonamide group antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial diseases by inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase, with Zn(II), Mn(II) and Co(II) ions was investigated in the presence and absence of acesulfame potassium (ACEK). This interaction was studied by using square wave voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry techniques in Britton-Robinson (B-R) buffer (pH=7.4). In the first step of the study, the effect of the pH of supporting electrolyte, potential scan rate and frequency on the peak current and peak potential of SDZ was voltammetrically investigated. Then, the interaction of SDZ with ACEK was studied in acidic (pH=5.0), neutral (pH=7.0), physiological (pH=7.4) and basic (pH=9.0) media. At the last stage of the study, the interaction of SDZ with Zn(II), Mn(II) and Co(II) ions at pH=7.4 was investigated by voltammetric techniques in the presence and absence of ACEK. It was observed that there was an interaction between SDZ and ACEK in acidic, neutral, physiological and basic media. Moreover, it was determined that there was interaction between SDZ and Zn(II), Mn(II), Co(II) ions at physiological pH in the presence and absence of ACEK.
