Abstract
Artemisia santonicum L(A fragrans wild, A.maritima L.) (deniz yavşanı, kokulu yavşan) 60 cm yükseklikte, yaprakları tüylü, çalı görünüşünde, çok yıllık bir bitkidir.
Artemisia santonisum L. (A.fragrans Wild, A. maritima L.) is a plant of many years, 60 cm high, with fuzzy leaves and an appearance like a bush. It grows in large amounts in the sand on the seaside and in salty land. It is available in central Anatolia. It includes valatile oil, resin and santonine. Its flower state has been used as appetizing, strengthening, passing worms and against diabetes mellitus in infusion (% 2-3). The bud and florescent parts of the plant picked in Bafra in September and October, have been dried in shade. The diluted extract prepared from the dried specimen has been vaporized in 40°C and an extract of % 18.24 has been obtained. In this work, the influence of the Artemisia santonicum L. plant to the blood diabetes level in normoglicemic and alloxan diabetic hares has been examined. For this purpose, the normoglicemic hares have been divided in to two groups of six. Diluted extract 2 ml/kg (0.42 g/kg) has been given to the test group, serum physiologic has been given to the control group orally. Blood specimens have been taken every one how in six hows. Two months later than this work, normoglicemic hares have been separated into two groups of six, as test group and control group. 150 mg/kg alloxan monohydrate has been injected into the ear having the blood diabetes levels of the hares in % 300-500 mg. After 48 hours, diluted extract 2 ml/kg (0.42 g/kg) has been given to the test group and serum physiological has been given orally to the control group. Blood specimens have been taken every one hour in six hours. The blood diabetes levels of the normoglycemic and alloxan diabetic hares have been determined by Glucose Oxidase method. For evalvating the differences between the test and control groups, student - 1 test has been used. An important decrease (% 30 and % 20) in the blood diabetes levels of the hares fed by Artemisia santonicum L. diluted extract, has been observed. The decrease in the glucose level is due to the time and the highest decrease has been observed six hours later than the extract is given. There is no meaningful change in the blood diabetes level of the control group. Key Words: Artemisia, santonicum, hypoglycemic
