Abstract
In the present study, composite pH sensors based on polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA) were prepared by using quinhydron-PVC-NH2, quinhydron-PVC-COOH, quinhydron-PVC-NH2 + PVC-COOH active compounds. Potentiometric peformances of the sensors prepared were tested with a home-made potentiometric system that is controlled by a computer. The best potentiometric performance was obtained with the sensor composition of 10% (w/w) quinhydron, 20% (w/w) grafite, and 20% (w/w) polymetylmetacrylate (PMMA) and 50% acrilic acid. The sensor response was linear between pH 2-12, and it?s potential differences was 53.3±2.2 mV per decade. The response time of the composite sensor developped was very short ( ? 20 s), and the life time was long ( almost 1 year). The developped quinhydrone based pH sensors were succesfully applied to acid ?base titrations of several organic acids and bases for the determination of Ka and Kb values. The results obtained by the sensors were in very good correlation with the teoritical values.
