Abstract

Purpose: Harmful effect of trauma on dental structures is a common issue in dental practice. Avulsion of incisors could likely be occurred in permanent dentition while splint application in such cases is advised. However, this technique could be difficult on crowded teeth. The aim of our study is to splint effected teeth with fiber reinforced lingual retainer thereafter the reimplantation and to perform orthodontic and prosthetic therapy subsequent to recovery. Case presentation: A 22 years old female patient referred to Ondokuz Mayis University Faculty of Dentistry with the complaint of damage on upper anterior teeth due to trauma. It was noted from anamnesis that the avulsed tooth tried to be inserted to the alveolar socket before addressed to our faculty. Concerned teeth were splinted with fiber reinforced lingual retainer after the reimplantation. Thus, the left central incisor needed to be extracted after healing period and appropriate prosthetic therapy established after lateral incisor moved to extraction site. Conclusion: Whereat it's difficult to splint directly within mouth in patients who were traumatized, fiber reinforced lingual retainer could be an alternative to composite-wire combination in crowded teeth cases.
