Abstract
ABSTRACT Along with the developements in diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal system tumors, interest has been shifted to improving the patients' satisfaction level and overall life quality, this study focuses on determining the patients' expectations, satisfaction levels and overall qualities of life, in an effort to accomplish goals which are more likely to qualify for this demands. For this purpose, 100 patients who have been operated for musculoskeletal system tumors between January 2000- December 2005 have been summoned for clinical examination and the 'Oncological Ortopaedics Patient Satisfaction Monitoring Form', which consisted of a questionairre prepared bu the author, SF-36 quality of life questionairre and MSTS functional evaluation scale has been filled out by each patient. Interpretation of the data from the questionairres of the patients (36 of them malign and 64 benign) suggests that the patients prefer to be well informed of their ailments, even if it is malign, and they are satisfied by the medical service they receive from our center. Also, it has been noted that patients with malign tumors end up with a lower quality of life, while patients with benign tumors can achieve a higher quality, yet still less than of the normal population. MSTS findings of the patients were consistent with tose of the similar studies. In the light shed by this findings, it has been concluded that the patients need to be fully informed of the diagnosis and outlook of the disease, and further efforts should be made to discover more effective postoperative rehabilitation protocols in order to improve the ultimate life quality of these individuals. Keywords: Tumor, Expectations, satisfaction, Quality of life XII
