Publication: Çocuk Kliniklerinde Çalışan Hemşirelerin Geleneksel Alternatif ve Tamamlayıcı Tıp Hakkındaki Bilgi ve Tutumları
Abstract
Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the practices, knowledgelevels, and attitudes of nurses working in the pediatrics clinic about Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Material and Method: This descriptive study was carried out between 28.5.2018 - 27.7.2018 to the nurses working in pediatric clinics at OMU Medical Faculty Children's Hospital and Samsun Maternity and Children's Hospital. The sample of the research consisted of 236 pediatric nurses working in pediatric clinics at Samsun Maternity and Children's Hospital and Samsun 19 Mayıs University Hospital. The data was obtainedusing a descriptive form containing some features of pediatric nurses and the Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ).A statistical program, SPSS 23.0, was used to analyze the data, ıt was evaluated descriptive statics (mean, Standard deviation, count and percentage distribution)the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and non-parametrictests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test). Results: 80.5% of the pediatric nurses participating in the study stated that they did not getanytraining on complementary and Alternative medicine, and %83, 2 did not consider them selves sufficient in this regard. The iraveragepoint of the Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ) was found 25,32±6,13. It was detected that there was a statistically signifi cant relation ship between the nurses' Alternative Medicine Questionnaire (HCAMQ) scores and the irmaritalstatus and Professional experience time (p <0.005).A statistically remarkablerelation ship was found between the average point of the Alternative Medicine Questionnaire(HCAMQ) of the nurses who thought Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) methods to be among the duties of the General Directorate of Health Services (p <0.05). Conclusion: The attitudes of the nurses working in the pediatrics clinic to wards Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) were determined to be positive and moderate, and some of their characteristics affected the irattitudes to wards alternative medicine. Nurses did not have sufficient knowledge about Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), and it is recommended that Alternative medicine should be included in nursing curriculum and in-service training in nursing.
