Abstract

Medical causes to motor vehicle accidents is not known. Data from Canada and the US suggest that less than 5% of accidents involving commercial vehicles can be attributed to cardiovascular disease. Data from Europe suggest that approximately 0.1% of reportable road accidents are attributed to medical causes, and only 10-25% of these are due to cardiac events. Driving guidelines and regulations in heart disease are of importance, not only for the proper recuperation and well-being of the patient, but also for the protection of society. Therefore, our purpose as a the Turkish Society of Cardiology a need for to address this important issue and provide learned opinion and guidelines for driving license for cardiologists. © 2016 Türk Kardiyoloji Derneǧi.
