Abstract
A RESEARCH ON ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SOME NEW SYNTHESIZED SULFONAMIDE AND SULFAMATE DERIVATIVES ABSTRACT In this study antimicrobial activity of newly synthesized 7 sulfonamide and 9 sulfamate derivative compounds were determined against 5 gram (-), 4 gram (+), bacteria, a yeast and a mould. Antimicrobial activity was tested by disc diffusion method. All used chemical compounds were dissolved in DMSO and then antimicrobial activity of new chemicals were tested at different concentrations. Subsequently obtained inhibition zones were evaluated and clarified according to substituents a values by using Hammett graphs method. As regard to results, sulfonamide derivative compounds were found to be effective on gram (+) bacteria especially on Nocardia farcinica and Nocardia asteroides. On the contrasy, the same compounds did not lead to any inhibitions on gram (-) bacteria, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. Some sulfamates were also tested. Some of which also result in an inhibition of gram (+) bacteria. The sulfonate dervatives have more inhibitory effect on gram (-) bacteria than sulfonamide derivatives. Two sulfamate derivative compounds showed remarkable inhibition on Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. When the sulfonamide compounds had an electron withdrawing substituent, their inhibition was increased. In addition, in the case of increasing the concentration of derivative compounds led to an increase in inhibition zones but that was not significant changes. Key Words: Sulfonamide, Sulfemate, Antimicrobial Activity
