Publication: Sağlık Çalışanlarının Organ Bağışına Yönelik Tutumları İle Kültürel Erdemleri Arasındaki İlişki
Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the attitudes of healthcare professionals towards organ donation and their cultural virtues. Materials and Method: This descriptive, cross-sectional and relationship-seeking study was carried out with the participation of 201 healthcare professionals working at Samsun Gazi State Hospital between 15/04/2024 and 15/07/2024. Sampling, doctors and nurses are included. The data of the study were collected using the 'Identifying Features Form', the 'Post-Mortem Organ Donation Attitude Scale' and the 'Cultural Virtues Scale'. Independent Sample T Test, Pearson Correlation Analysis and Linear Regression Analysis were used to evaluate the data. Result: While 72.1% (n=145) of the healthcare workers were nurses, 27.9% (n=56) were doctors. The mean score of healthcare workers from the Benevolence Scale, which is the sub-dimension of Cultural Virtues, was found to be 29.00±4.46. The mean score they got from the Spirituality Scale, which is the Cultural Virtues sub-dimension, was found to be 24.82±5.44. The mean score they got from the Opinion Scale, which is the sub-dimension of Cultural Virtues, was found to be 25.06±4.54. The mean score of the healthcare workers included in the study from the Organ Donation Attitude Scale was calculated as 67.31±14.48 and the result was found to be above the average. It was observed that there was a significant relationship between the Organ Donation Attitude Scale and the Spirituality Dimension, (p=0.019) Family Approval Dimension and the Spirituality Dimension, (p<0.001), the Positive Attitude Dimension and the Opinion Dimension (p=0.029), and the Family Approval Dimension and the Opinion Dimension (p=0.026). According to the results of the regression analysis, it was found that the Spirituality Dimension (β=0.159; p<0.05), one of the Cultural Virtues Scales, significantly predicted the Organ Donation Attitude Scale. Conclusion: From the Cultural Virtues Scales, it was found that the spirituality dimension affected the attitude towards organ donation. According to the results, it is recommended to provide trainings on attitudes towards organ donation and the factors affecting them.
