Publication: Çalgı Kalitesinin Yaylı Çalgı Eğitimine Olan Etkilerine Yönelik Öğrenci ve Öğretim Elemanı Görüşleri
Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the views of students and teachers on the impact of instrument quality on stringed instrument education. For this purpose, answers were sought to the questions of whether the instruments used by the students are fabricated or handmade, whether there are quality string instruments for student use in the inventory of the university where the students are trained, whether the quality of the instrument, the quality of the instrument and the quality of the accessories meet the qualifications of string instrument training. In addition, the opinions of students and lecturers on whether the quality of string instruments affects students' motivation, performance, and practise time, whether students have knowledge of instrument maintenance and repair, whether there are luthiers in the university where students are trained or in the surrounding regions, and what are the effects of students' economic conditions on string instrument education were determined. This research was carried out using a qualitative research method. Descriptive analysis technique and survey model design were used in the research. The sample of the study consisted of 65 students studying string instruments at Ondokuz Mayıs, Gazi, Ordu, İnönü, Sinop, and Trabzon Universities and 19 lecturers teaching string instruments at these institutes. The data were collected by answering the 40-item questions in the A-form directed to the students and the 27-item questions in the B-form directed to the instructors, depending on the purpose of the research. As a result of the findings, it was determined that the majority of the student instruments were owned by the students, 53% of them had fabricated instruments and that the student instruments and their bows did not fully meet the ideal conditions in terms of the requirements of instrument education. It was found that there is a correlation between the quality of the stringed instruments, the quality of the bows, and the ability to apply left-hand and bowing techniques. It was determined that only 50% of the universities have quality string instruments in their inventory, economic conditions are related to instrument education and training, students want to purchase better quality instruments if economic conditions allow, instrument quality will increase motivation, instrument performance, and instrument practice time.
