Abstract
This research aims to examine the location and impact of kitsch phenomenon in graphic design education. The reasons for aesthetic perception and appreciation by kitsch products are examined. The question of how to protect kitsch from adverse effects and how to consciously use kitsch in graphic design education constitutes the purpose of this research. In this study, the course schedules and contents of the universities providing graphic design education are examined. The findings obtained by the examination were interpreted and evaluated. In this study, the method of ' Descriptive Research' was used in qualitative research types. Descriptive researchs describe a given situation as accurately as possible. In research in the field of education, the most common descriptive method is screening work, because researchers summarize the characteristics (such as skills, preferences, behaviors, etc.) of individuals, groups, or (sometimes) physical environments (such as schools) (Büyüköztürk, Kılıc Çakmak, Akgun, Karadeniz, Demirel, 2012). In the first part, the problem of research, purpose, significance, assumptions, limitations, definitions and related research are explained. In the second part; The literature information about the kitsch and aesthetics, the historical development process of the kitsch and the relationship with art were given. In findings and comments section, the course programs of the universities providing graphic design training that can be reached X within the scope of the research are discussed, the course content should be made about the case of kitsch. Information is examined in graphic design education, it is explained that they use the phenomenon of kitsch consciously or as they adopt and make an appreciation of this concept which is the return of popular culture. As a result of the research, the results were reached in line with the resulting tables and some suggestions about the subject were presented.
