| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to compare propofol and midazolam for hemodynamic responses, lipid peroxidation products and antioxidant agents (superoxide-dismutase, glutation, total tiol). Twenty patients of ASA I-II randomized into two groups: propofol 2.5 mg/kg IV (Propofol Group) and midazolam 0.3 mg/kg IV (Midazolam Group) used as induction agents. Neuromuscular block was provided vecuronium 0.1 mg/kg in two groups. Anaesthesia was maintained with 1% isoflurane in 33% O<inf>2</inf> and 66% N<inf>2</inf>O. There was no statistically significance in hemodynamic parameters between the two groups. In the propofol group, serum lipid peroxide products, superoxide dismutase and glutation levels were significantly lower than the midazolam group. It is concluded that propofol is a scavenger of free oxygen radicals and cause a significant decrease in antioxidant agents. | en_US |
