Abstract
The structure of the title compound, [HN(C<inf>2</inf>H<inf>4</inf>OH) <inf>3</inf>]+·-H<inf>2</inf>PO<inf>4</inf>- or C<inf>6</inf>H<inf>16</inf>NO<inf>3</inf>+·H <inf>2</inf>PO<inf>4</inf>-, contains two distinct dihydrogenphosphate anions and two triethanolammonium cations in the asymmetric unit. The H<inf>2</inf>PO<inf>4</inf> units are linked in a polymeric chain by strong P-OH ⋯ O-P hydrogen bonds along the [010] direction, while the (H<inf>2</inf>PO<inf>4</inf>)- and [HN(C<inf>2</inf>H <inf>4</inf>OH)<inf>3</inf>]+ ions are connected by O-H ⋯ O hydrogen bonds to yield sheet-like entities. The triethanolammonium cation shows a tripodal conformation and the ammonium H atom forms an intramolecular trifurcated hydrogen bond with the O atoms of the three ethanol groups. © 2003 International Union of Crystallography Printed in Great Britain - all rights reserved.
