Publication: Toplumsal Cinsiyet Eşitliği ve Yaşam Doyumu İlişkisinde Öz-Şefkatin Aracı Rolü
Abstract
The present study seeks to investigate the association between individuals' perceptions of gender equality and their life satisfaction, while also examining the potential mediating role of self-compassion in this relationship. Furthermore, the constructs of gender equality, self-compassion, and life satisfaction are addressed in a comprehensive manner, both theoretically and empirically, drawing on relevant findings from the existing body of literature. Data were collected using an online survey method, and the findings were evaluated using parametric analysis techniques. The t-test and ANOVA were used to test whether there were significant differences in the variables in question according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, and the relationships between the variables were examined using correlation and regression analyses. Whether self-compassion plays a mediating role in the relationship between gender equality and life satisfaction was analyzed using a multiple regression model. The findings indicate that the perception of gender equality does not have a direct significant effect on life satisfaction; however, the level of self-compassion significantly predicts life satisfaction. In this regard, it was concluded that the way in which individuals develop understanding towards themselves is one of the fundamental psychological resources that increase life satisfaction. In terms of demographic variables, significant differences were observed between some groups; in particular, variables such as gender and age were found to be effective in perceptions of gender equality and levels of self-compassion. This study emphasizes that an individual's life satisfaction is shaped not only by external conditions but also by internal resources, drawing attention to the fact that self-compassion is an area that can be developed and strengthened in this context. The findings shed light on the psychological reflections of social equality and its indirect effects on subjective well-being.
