Abstract

The crystal structure and synthesis of bis(1,10-phenanthroline- κ2N.N′)-(squarato -κO)copper(II) trihydrate were investigated. The Cu(II) ion of the sample had distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry, consisted of one carboxylate O atom from a monodentate square ligand and four N atoms from two chelating phen, 1,10-phenanthroline, ligands. The sample consisted of a network of hydrogen bonds, face-to-face π-π stacking interactions and a weak π-ring interactions. The perpendicular distance between atom H4 and the center of the phen ring was 3.12 Å and the C-H···Cg angle was 88°.
