This research had been conducted with the aim of selecting chestnut interspecific hybrids with high yield and good nut characteristics. Handed-cross pollinations were performed between ‘King Arthur’ and ‘Lockwood’ cultivars at The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in 2004. ‘King Arthur’ is a C. mollissima × C. seguinii hybrid and ‘Lockwood’ is a C. crenata × C. sativa × C. dentata hybrid. In 2005, seeds were imported from USA and planted at The Black Sea Agricultural Research Institution in 2006. Up to 2014 their cumulative yield, precocity, number of nuts per bur, nut weight, color, brightness and thickness of pericarp, chestnut with a split pericarp, kernel color, peeling of pellicle, penetration of pellicle into kernel, polyembryony, ripening time and taste characteristics were examined. As a result of the study, A14, A25 and A100 genotypes were selected for early fresh consumption. © 2018 International Society for Horticultural Science. All Rights Reserved.en_US
