Publication: Konya İlinde Mısır Depolarında Bulunan Akar Türlerinin ve Popülasyon Yoğunluklarının Saptanması
Abstract
Pest mite species cause crop losses and threaten human and animal health. In this study, pest and predatory mite species and their population densities and distributions were studied in corn storages in Konya Province, Türkiye between 2022 and 2024. A total of 76 samples, 30 in 2022, 30 in 2023 and 16 in 2024, were collected from different areas of the province. In each storage, about 1.5 kg of corn was collected from various parts of the corn pile and thoroughly mixed. A 1 kg of subsample was taken and the mites were then extracted in Berlese-Tullgren funnels. They were preserved in 70% ethyl-alcohol, then cleared with lactophenol or lactic acid and mounted in Hoyer's medium for identification. Of all the samples, 43.4% were infested with mites. In total, 8 mite species belonging to 3 families were found. The pest species were Acarus siro, A. farris, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Caloglyphus oudemansi (Acaridae), Dermanyssus gallinae (Dermanyssidae), and predatory species were Cheyletus malaccensis, C. trouessarti and Acaropsis sollers (Cheyletidae). Acarus siro was the most abundant and widespread species. In addition, C. oudemansi is a new record for the fauna of Türkiye.
