İlköğretim Sosyal Bilgiler Dersinde Müze İle Eğitimin Öğretmen ve Öğrenci Görüşlerine Göre Değerlendirilmesi: Samsun İli Örneği

Abstract

Müzeler, hem temel eğitimde hem de yaşam boyu eğitim sürecinde çok boyutlu öğrenmeyi sağlayan yaşam alanlarıdır. Müze ile eğitim ise, eğitim alanında müzelerin etkin kullanımını içermektedir ve okuldaki eğitimi zenginleştirici bir potansiyele sahiptir. Müze ile eğitimin amacı yalnızca bilgi vermek değildir, müze ile eğitim soru sormayı, ipuçlarından yeni bilgiler elde etmeyi ve sentez yapmayı da özendirmektedir. Sosyal Bilgiler eğitim ve öğretiminde görsel kaynakların yeri büyüktür. Müzeler de derslerde kullanılabilecek tarihî eserleri, somut nesneleri bünyesinde barındırmaktadır. Bu bakımdan öğrencilerin geçmişini tanıyan, sahip çıkan ve koruyan bireyler olarak yetiştirilmesi için müzelerden eğitim öğretim sürecinde daha aktif bir şekilde faydalanılması kuşkusuz öğrencilere yarar sağlayacaktır.Bu araştırma, ilköğretim okullarında Sosyal Bilgiler dersi veren öğretmenlerin ve bu dersi alan öğrencilerin müzelerin Sosyal Bilgiler eğitimi amaçlı kullanılmasına ilişkin görüşlerini, farkındalık düzeylerini belirlemek ve müzelerin eğitim amaçlı kullanılmasının Sosyal Bilgiler öğretimine katkısının ne olabileceğini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır.Araştırma 2010-2011 eğitim-öğretim yılında Samsun ilinde 10 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 10 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmeni ve 20 öğrenci ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden görüşme tekniği kullanılarak veriler toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz tekniği kullanılmıştır.Araştırma sonucunda Sosyal Bilgiler Programında yer alan müze ile eğitim konusunda öğretmenlerin yeterli düzeyde bilgi sahibi olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Öğretmenlerin sanal müzeler hakkında da bilgi sahibi olmadıkları ve Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde sanal müze ziyaretlerini bilinçli olarak yaptırmadıkları da tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca müze ile eğitim kapsamında yapılan etkinliklerin değerlendirilmediği de belirlenmiştir.Bu araştırmada elde edilen bulgulara dayanarak, ilköğretim programlarında müze ile eğitimi daha etkin hale getirmek ve öğretmenlerin uygulamadaki zorluklarının giderilmesi için önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Museums are living areas that provide multi-dimensional learning, both in basic education and life-long learning. Meanwhile, education through museums involves efficient use of museums in teaching and holds a potential that enriches the education in the school. Thus, its purpose is not merely providing information. In addition, it stimulates the attainment of new information from clues and synthesizing. In Social Studies education and learning, visual resources have a significant standing. And, museums embody historical artifacts, tangible objects. Therefore, active utilization of museums during education and learning will undoubtedly be beneficial in raising the children as individuals who recognize, know, look after and uphold their history. This research has been carried out in order to determine the opinions and the levels of awareness of teachers teaching Social Studies in elementary schools and the students taking these classes in relation to the use of museums for the purposes of teaching Social Studies, and to reveal the contributions to teaching Social Studies by using museums for education.The research has been limited to ten elementary school Social Studies teachers and twenty students in Samsun province during the 2010-2011 academic year. The data have been collected in the research using the interview technique from qualitative research methods. The descriptive analysis method has been used in the analysis of the data.At the end of the research, it has been determined that teachers do not have an adequate level of knowledge on teaching through the use of museums, included in the Social Sciences Curriculum. It has been determined that the teachers also are not acquainted with virtual museums and that they also do not practice museum visits knowledgeably. Moreover, it has also been revealed that the activities made within the scope of education by museums are not being evaluated.Based on the findings obtained from this research, recommendations have been provided to improve the efficiency of education by museums in elementary school curriculums and to overcome the difficulties of the teachers in implementation.
