The aim of this work to investigate the effects of sertraline and fluoxetine on the incidence of lidocaine-induced convulsions in mice. The incidence of lidocaine (70 mg/kg, ip) induced convulsions was decreased (p < 0.05) by acute treatment with sertraline (10 mg/kg, ip) and fluoxetine (20 mg/kg, ip) but not influenced subchronic treatment with both sertraline (5 mg/kg/day, ip) and fluoxetine (10 mg/kg/day, ip). These results suggest that serotonergic system may have an inhibitory effect on lidocaine-induced convulsions and in case of subchronic drug treatment neuroadaptation may occur.en_US
