Abstract
An evaluation of teacher status is likely to provide useful insights for both educationalists and governments to improve educational outcomes and a global comparison may provide evaluation that will aid educational reforms in different countries. In defining teacher status in a society, such dimensions as comparisons of earnings of teachers, whether parents would encourage their children to be teachers, to what extent students and parents respect teachers, whether teachers unions have too much power are taken into consideration. Roles which political, cultural and economic factors and social standing play in the position of teachers in each country and how these might impact on education are also important. As compared to other professions, teacher status is generally lower. The main aim of this study is to explore similarities and differences between teacher status across the world and their employee personal rights in some developed countries and Turkey, create awareness on the issue and to contribute to discussions regarding teacher status and employee personal rights.
