Publication: Kadınların Doğurganlık Tercihlerine Göre Ebeveynlik Rollerine İlişkin Kendilik Algılarının Belirlenmesi
Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the self-perception of women's parenting roles according to their fertility preferences with a mixed method. The data of the study were collected between 04/08/2020 and 08/02/2021 with 408 women between the ages of 18-49 registered in Samsun Vezirköprü Mehmet Paşa Family Health Center. For quantitative data, a questionnaire questioning the descriptive and obstetric characteristics of women and the Parental Role Self-Perception (ERKA) Scale; for qualitative data, a semi-structured interview form was prepared to determine women's birth preferences and their views on parenting used. The average of the competence dimension in the self-perception scale of women's parental role (ERKA) was 21.95±4.87, the average of the role satisfaction dimension was 14.92±3.18, the average of the investment dimension was 13.93±3.37 and the average of the role balancing dimension was 13.34±4.00. It was determined that the independent variables affecting the self-perception scale of the parent role scale 'Competence' sub-dimension score were age at first birth, number of births, number of miscarriages/curettage/stillbirths, last child's age, and planning time of pregnancy. In the qualitative data of the study, 4 main es, namely Child Perception, Factors Affecting Fertility Choice, Parenting Perception, and Parenting Role, and 14 sub-themes constituting these themes were determined. According to these themes, It was concluded that women felt relatively weak in their self-perception about role balancing, saw themselves as inadequate in their parental roles, and became mothers by forgetting their other roles in life.
