Abstract
In Turkey, leaf cabbage which is an important leafy vegetable is one of the most economically important members of the genus Brassica. Samsun province is one of the greatest cabbage producing areas in Turkey and has nearly 30% of the cabbage production of Turkey. Virus diseases on cabbage reduce production and decrease quality and marketing value of the crop. Surveys were done to determine the distribution of viruses in cabbage cultivated areas in Samsun in 2013-2014. According to the results of field observations, characteristic virus symptoms, such as mosaic, necrotic spots, and leaf deformations were observed on some leaf cabbage plants. A total of 235 leaf samples was collected from cabbage fields in Samsun province and tested for the presence of TuMV, CaMV, CMV, TYMV, and BWYV by DAS-ELISA using virus-specific commercial polyclonal antiserum. The results of serological tests showed that 11.4% and 7.6% of these samples were infected with CaMV and TuMV, respectively. The mixed infection ratio including CaMV and TuMV in the samples was 3.8%. However, infections of CMV, TYMV, and BWYV were not determined in any sample. © 2016, Centenary University. All rights reserved.
