Publication: Turizm Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Dil Öğrenme Meraklarının İncelenmesi
Abstract
İnternetin sundukları insanların sadece haber almasını kolaylaştırmamış aynı zamanda da gezip görülecek yerler konusunda çok bilgilendirici ve meraklandırıcı bilgiler edinmesine fayda sağlamıştır. Turizm sektörü olumlu etki alan alanlardan birisidir. Turizm hem kültürel paylaşımı arttıran hem de ülkeye gelir sağlayan önemli alanlardan birisidir. Bu durum dil yabancı dil öğretimini ve turizm sektörü çalışanlarının yabancı dil bilmesini önemli hale getirmiştir. Yabancılarla çalışılan alanlarda yabancı dil bilmek keyfiyet olmaktan çıkmış, bir zorunluluk haline gelmiştir. Fakat öğrenmek merak olmadan mümkün ve kolay değildir. Bu sebeple bu çalışmanın amacı Turizm Fakültesi öğrencilerinin yabancı dil öğrenme merak düzeylerini incelemektir. Çalışmada karma yöntem kullanılmıştır. Nitel yöntemlerden görüşme yapılmış, nicel yöntemlerden ise ölçek uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerle yapılan görüşmeler içerik analizi yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada Demirci ve Akcaalan (2022) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlaması yapılan Dil Öğrenme Merak Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Ölçek sonuçları SPSS programı ile değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2024-2025 eğitim-öğretim yılında Turizm Fakültesinde öğrenim gören 188 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sonucunda Turizm Fakültesi öğrencilerinin yabancı dil öğrenme merak düzeylerinde mezun olunan okul, daha önce yurt dışında bulunma, Ana dili ve Almanca dışında bir dil bilme değişkenlerinin etkili olduğu, cinsiyet ve yaş değişkenlerinin etkisinin olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada öğrencilerin merak duygusunu daha önce yurt dışında bulunup bulunmamaları önemli ölçüde etkilemiştir.
People become more easily aware of what is happening in the world with technological developments and the increase in communication channels brought about by the internet age. The Internet not only made it easier for people to get news, but also helped them to get very informative and interesting information about places to visit. The tourism sector is one of the areas with a positive impact. Tourism is one of the important areas that both increases cultural sharing and brings income to the country. This situation has made it important for foreign language teaching and for tourism sector employees to know a foreign language. Knowing a foreign language in areas where foreigners work has ceased to be an option, it has become a necessity. But learning is not possible and easy without curiosity. For this reason, the aim of this study is to examine the curiosity levels of foreign language learning students of the School of Tourism and hotel management. The sample of the research consists of 188 students who are studying at the Faculty of Tourism in the 2024-2025 academic year. The mixed method was used in the study. The study is a mixed design study, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. The interviews with the students were evaluated by the content analysis method. In the study, the Language Learning Curiosity Scale, which was adapted to Turkish by Demirci and Akcaalan (2022), was used. The scale results were evaluated with the SPSS program. As a result of the research, it was determined that the variables of the students of the Faculty of Tourism, the school they graduated from, being abroad before, knowing a language other than their mother tongue and German were effective, and there was no effect on gender and age variables. In the study, it was determined that the sense of deprivation of the students who graduated from private high schools, the sense of interest and deprivation of the students who were abroad before and knew a language other than their mother tongue and German, and the level of curiosity to learn a foreign language were high, and it was concluded that the sense of interest and deprivation had a strong effect on the curiosity of learning a foreign language.
