Publication: Bocce Antrenörlerinin İletişim Becerisi ve Antrenör Yeterliliği
Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the communication skills and coach competence of Bocce coaches according to some socio-demographic characteristics. A descriptive scanning model was used in the study. The sample of the research consists of 254 coaches who are actively working as bocce coaches throughout Türkiye. As data collection tools, the personal information form developed by the researchers, the 25-item Communication Skills Evaluation Scale developed by Korkut (1996), the 25-item Communication Skills Evaluation Scale developed by Feltz, Chase, Moritz, and Sullivan (1999), and the 25-item Communication Skills Assessment Scale developed by Feltz, Chase, Moritz, and Sullivan (1999) were used. The 18-item Coach Competence Scale 2, updated by Unutmaz and Gençer (2017) and adapted into Turkish, was used. During the data analysis process, Student's t test was used for pairwise group comparisons; For comparisons of three or more groups, One-Way Analysis of Variance and Tukey's multiple comparison tests were used. In the research; Coach proficiency and communication skills according to marital status, coach proficiency and communication skills according to the participants' years of coaching, coach proficiency and communication skills according to the participants' ages, coach proficiency and communication skills according to the income level of the participants, coach proficiency and communication skills according to the participants' education levels, total score and sub-dimension total. While no statistically significant difference was detected between the scores, a significant difference was determined between the total scores of the Coach Competency Scale-2 scale and some sub-dimension total scores according to gender, communication skills according to marital status, coaching level, and the years of coaching in the team the participants were in. It is thought that examining the communication skills and coach competence levels of bocce coaches with variables to be created other than the variables discussed in this research will contribute to the literature. Keywords: Coach, Bocce, Communication, Competency, Sports
