Abstract

Lyme disease is a multisystemic disease caused by Borrelia, which can affect the skin, joints, central nervous system and heart, and is transmitted by ticks. B. burgdorferi in America and B. garinii and B. afeleii species in Europe are more common as causative agents in Lyme disease. There are 3 stages of the disease: early localized, early disseminated and chronic disease. In Lyme disease, erythema migrans, disseminated erythema migrans, borrelial lymphocytoma, acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans and morphea-like lesions can be seen. Borrelial lymphocytoma and acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans are skin manifestations usually seen in European cases. In the treatment of Lyme disease, it is recommended to use doxycycline, amoxicillin and cefuroxime axetil for varying durations depending on the stage of the disease. Possible complications can be prevented by diagnosing the disease in the early stages and giving appropriate treatment. © 2022 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
