Abstract
ABSTRACTEFFECT OF DIFFERENT SELECTION TIMESIN MAIN AND SECOND CROP ON THE YIELD AND YIELD PARAMETERSIN SOYBEAN (Glycine max (L.) Merll)F5 materials belonging to 4 combinations formed by means of crossings inthe year 2000 were used to obtain early yielding varieties for the second crop(crop sown after main crop) in the Soybean Improvement Project at the Black-Sea Agricultural Research lnstitute in this study. These materials were selectedfor single-plant under the main and second crop conditions for two years afterthe F2 generation up to F4 level. This study was carried out in two experimentsat the Ambarköprü experimental field of Black-Sea Agricultural Researchlnstitute in the year of 2005. 10 plants were selected from the different numbersof single-plant lines; their seeds were bulked and two experiments wereestablished with these seeds in May (main crop) and in July (second crop). F5lines were sown with 70 x 5 cm in May and 60 x 5 cm sowing spacing in July, respectively. Plant height, legume number per plant, altitude of first legume fromthe ground, 100 seeds weight, seed humidity and yield per hectare wererecorded in this study.Average yields for main crop experiments were higher than average yieldsof control cultivars (2331,0 kg/ha). There were no differences among theaverage yields of F5 lines obtained from main and second crops in the samecombination although there were differences regarding the yield among thecombinations.Whereas the yields of F5 lines which were aid to same combination andselected under the second crop conditions were 3-17 % higher than the yieldsof F5 lines selected under the main crop conditions in the second cropexperiments. The highest yields of the lines were obtained from the second croplines in all combinations.Key Words: Soybean, main crop, second crop, selection, yield
