Abstract
Sıdkî Dervis Mehmed Efendi is a diwan poet who lived at the end of 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. He has a reorganized diwan and in this work there are poems which are worthy of dervish quality and which are comprehensive of sufism's terminology. Considering the name of the poet and the work, one can understand that he is competent in sufism. Only one print of Sıdki Diwan have been found during the research about the work that is in question in our study. In the Diwan, registered by archieve number A646 in the National Library, there are 231 Turkish, 3 Persian and 2 Arabian poems. The aim of the study is to present Sıdkî Derviş Mehmed's Diwan, one of the undiscovered diwans, to those who are interested in this subject, and to value the artist as he deserves. This study is composed of three parts. In the first part, Sıdkî's life and literary style are introduced. In the second part, form and content characteristics of Sıdki's diwan, its verse characteristics and coherence/rhyme qualities (meter, rhyme, redif) are analyzed. In the third part, a transcribed text of Sıdkî's diwan is given. Besides, a reference dictionary about the words in diwan, and an index of people and place names are given at the end of the study. Diwan literature is a literature dominated by tradition. Works of verse and prose of this literary period have many common qualities, for this reason, what makes a work precious is its characteristics of which other works lack . Our work has various characteristics that make it precious, too. Sıdkî broke, though in part, some of tradition's characteristics which force certain subjects to be written in certain poetic styles. He preferred to compose his poems including Islamic mysticism in a different way, that's, he employed the qualities of ghazals (lyric) instead those of eulogy. Not being satisfied with that, the poet even pushed the limits for another time by exceeding the number of ghazal's couplet whose length of couplet is certain. The poet takes attention by using redif, and his way of making redif by applying to Turkish affixes for Arabian and Persian words and his occasionally using clausal redifs are concluded within the study. Key Words: 18th Century , 19th Century , Diwan Literature , Sufism
