Publication: Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Boş Zaman Yönetiminin Bireysel ve Sosyal Sorumluluk Davranışlarına Etkisi
Abstract
This study examined the relationship between leisure time management and individual and social responsibility behaviors among students at the Faculty of Sports Sciences. It also investigated whether these variables differed according to gender, age, income level, participation in voluntary social projects, social media usage time, and faculty type. The main objective of the study was to identify the factors affecting students' leisure time management and responsibility levels and to offer suggestions for improvement in these areas. The study was conducted within the scope of a correlational survey model and a quantitative research method was used. Data were collected using the Personal and Social Responsibility Behavior Scale and the Leisure Time Management Scale. The sample of the study consisted of 254 undergraduate students enrolled at the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Ondokuz Mayıs University. In the analysis of the data, t-tests were used for pairwise comparisons, one-way ANOVA for multiple comparisons, and LSD tests for the detection of differences between groups. As social media usage time increased, scores for goal setting, evaluation, attitude, and time management decreased, indicating a significant negative relationship (p<0.05). Participation in volunteer projects had a positive effect on time management and responsibility levels. Significant differences were found based on participation motivation and barriers (p<0.05; p<0.001). Significant differences were found only in goal setting and method development dimensions according to faculty type. Participation in volunteer social projects had positive effects on students' time management and responsibility perceptions. Among the reasons for not participating in social responsibility projects, the most prominent reason was lack of time, and it was observed that time management and responsibility levels were lower in this group. It was determined that high social media usage time had negative effects on students' time management and planning skills. Significant differences were observed only in goal setting and method development skills according to faculty type. In conclusion, it is recommended that education and support programs aimed at developing university students' time management and responsibility skills be increased.
