Çevre Kirliliğinin Finansal Gelişim ve Kentleşme Bağlamında Çevresel Kuznets Eğrisi Hipotezi İle İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Türkiye örneği için 1960-2014 dönemine ilişkin yıllık verileri kullanarak, çevre kirliliği, kişi başına düşen gelir, kişi başına düşen gelirin karesi, dış ticaret, finansal gelişim, kentleşme ve sermaye birikimi değişkenleri arasındaki olası kısa ve uzun dönem ilişkilerinin araştırılması ve aynı zamanda çevre kirliliği ile kişi başına gelir değişkenlerinin ilişkilerini açıklayan Çevresel Kuznets Eğrisi(ÇKE) Hipotezinin Türkiye ekonomisi için geçerliliğinin test edilmesidir. Söz konusu değişkenlerin durağanlık özelliklerinin belirlenmesi için geleneksel birim kök testlerinin yanı sıra Zivot-Andrews birim kök testi uygulanmıştır. Bu test sonuçları ilgili değişkenlerin farklı derecelerde bütünleşik olduklarını ortaya koymuştur. Bu nedenle çalışmaya konu olan değişkenler arasındaki uzun dönem ilişkilerin araştırılması amacı ile eş bütünleşme yöntemi olarak ARDL sınır testi yaklaşımı kullanılmış ve değişkenler arasındaki olası nedensellik ilişkileri Toda Yamamoto nedensellik testiyle analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada değişkenler arasında istatistiki olarak anlamlı ve tutarlı sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar 1960-2014 döneminde Türkiye için ÇKE hipotezinin geçerli olduğunu göstermiştir.

The main aim of this study is to examine the possible short and long term relationship between environmental pollution, per capita income, squared, per capita income, foreign trade, financial development, urbanization and accumulation variables by using annual data for the 1960-2014 period in Turkey case. This study also aims to test the validity of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hyphotesis which explains the relationship between the variables of environmental pollution and per capita income for Turkish economy. In order to determine the stationarity properties of these variables, Zivot-Andrews unit root test is applied as well as the traditional unit root tests. These test results revealed that the relevant variables were integrated in different order. Therefore, ARDL bounds test approach is used as the co-integration method to examine the long-term relationships between the variables of the study and the possible causal relationships between the related variables are analyzed with Toda Yamamoto causality test. Statistically significant and consistent results were obtained in the study. The results of the study revealed the validity of the EKC hypothesis of for the case of Turkey in above mentioned period.
