Abstract
This study was carried out between April 5-June 14, 2005 in order tocompose distrubition maps of breeding birds in Ondokuz Mayıs University campusarea and surroundings. The results were compared with the former records of thecampus area and used to evaluate the avifaunistic features of the area. Breedingspecies were determined, their distribution and habitat preferences were evaluated.According to the grid system, study area was divided into 50 squares; in the morningtransect method and in the evening point count methods were used for the samesquares. For every bird species, the maximum breeding code (1-16) was noted. Inthis study, 106 species from 37 families and 13 orders were recorded. Of the 106bird species, 34 bird species from 17 families and 4 orders were determined asconfirmed breeders. 9 bird species from 7 families and 2 orders were determined asprobable breeders and 40 bird species from 24 families and 11 orders weredetermined as possible breeders. Although 23 bird species from 11 families and 5orders were not breeding in the studying area they were observed during the fieldstudies. Keywords: Samsun, Breeding bird, Distribution map, Habitat.
