Abstract
In this research, feeding experiments have been carried out with Uresiphita gilvata Fabricus 1794 (Crambidae) at last larval stage. In order to determine effect of chemical factors on feeding and development of U. gilvata larvae, 14 artificial diets having different componenets were prepared. By feeding the larvae on different diets, total consumption amounts, the pup weights, the protein contents, the lipid contents and duration of the last larval stage were determined and compared data which obtained by the larvae feeding on control artificial diet.By adding various concentrations of tannic acid, nicotine, quinine and cellulose to the control diet and by changing protein and carbohydrate contents in the control diet, 14 different diets were prepared. The diets each containing different secondary compounds had 1 %, 3 %, 5 % tannic acid, 0.125 %, 0.25 %, 0.5 % quinine and nicotine, 10 % and 30 % cellulose. In diets which of the amounts of protein and carbohydrate were changed, protein (P) and carbohydrate (C) rations were determined such as (P2X:C1) and (P1:C2X). Thus, effects of different diet groups were examined. In low consantrations, while tannic acid (1 %) showed stimulant effect on the consumption and increased it, nicotine and quinine (0.125 %) showed deterrent effect and decreased it. As the tannic acid content was increased in the diets, the amount of total consumption, the pup weight and the pup lipid content were decreased; but the diets with nicotine and quinine increased the consumption, the pup weight, the pup protein content and the pup lipid content. In diets containing cellulose, the pup lipid content was increased. The consumption by the larvae feding on the diet havig 10 % cellulose was increased. It was determined that the larvae feeding on diet which had twice more protein than carbohydrate gave raise the pup having more pup protein content. The larvae feding on the diet having twice more carbohydrate gave raise heavier pupa and increased the pup protein content. The duration of last larval stage was extended at the larvae fed on the diet containing tannic acid (5 %) and the diet havig quinine (0.5 %), but it shortened in diet having more protein.Key words: Uresiphita gilvata, artificial diet, chemical factor, tannin
