Publication: Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Hastanesi Aile Hekimliği Polikliniğine Başvuran 18 Yaş ve Üzeri Bireylerde Gıda Takviyesi Kullanım Durumları ve Sağlıklı Beslenme Davranışları
Abstract
Amaç: Günümüz dünyasında insanlar beslenme konusunda bilgiye hızlıca ulaşabilmekte ve sağlıklı beslenmeye dikkat etmektedir. Gıda takviyeleri kullanımı giderek artış göstermektedir. İnsanlar; normal beslenmesini takviye etmek, yeterli düzeyde alamadığı vitamin ve mineralleri dışarıdan alarak bağışıklık sistemini güçlendirmek gibi pek çok amaçla gıda takviyelerini kullanmaktadır. Çalışmamızda amacımız Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Aile Hekimliği polikliniğine başvuranlarda gıda takviyesi kullanım sıklığını ve sağlıklı beslenme davranışlarını belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Aile Hekimliği polikliniğine başvuran 18 yaş ve üzeri bireylere uygulanmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan bireylerin sosyodemografik özellikleri, kullandıkları gıda takviyeleri, sağlıklı beslenme davranışları araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanmış 40 sorudan oluşan anket ile belirlenmiştir. Veriler bilgisayar ortamına girilip değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. İstatistiksel anlamlılık düzeyi p<0,05 olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Bu araştırmaya Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Hastanesi Aile Hekimliği Polikliniği'ne başvuran ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 18 yaş ve üzeri 389 birey dahil edilmiştir. Katılımcıların %42,7'si son 12 ayda gıda takviyesi kullanmıştı. Katılımcıların sık kullandıkları gıda takviyeleri sırasıyla vitamin.D, vitamin B12, multivitaminler, yeşil çay, demir, probiyotik olarak saptandı. Bireylerin yaşları, cinsiyetleri, kronik hastalık durumları, sigara kullanma durumları ile gıda takviyesi kullanımları arasında anlamlı farklılık saptandı.Çalışmada kişilerin gıda takviyelerini en sık kullanma nedenleri sırasıyla bağışıklık sistemini güçlendirmek, demir veya vitamin eksiklikleri, sağlığını korumak ve hastalıklardan korunmak olarak saptandı. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda katılımcıların gıda takviyesi kullanımı yüksek oranda saptanmıştır. Bireylere yaşamları boyunca kapsamlı bakım sunan aile hekimleri, sağlığı koruma ve geliştirmede en önemli konumdadırlar. Bu nedenle aile hekimleri hastaların gıda takviyesi kullanımını sorgulamalı, yan etkileri konusunda bilgi vermeli ve dengeli beslenmeleri konusunda önerilerde bulunmalıdır. Aim: In today's world, people can quickly access information about nutrition and pay attention to healthy nutrition. The use of food supplements is increasing. People use food supplements for many purposes such as to supplement their diet, to strengthen the immune system by taking vitamins and minerals that they cannot get enough. The aim of our study is to determine the frequency of use of food supplements and healthy eating behaviors in individuals who applied to Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital. Material and Method: The study was applied to individuals aged 18 and over who were admitted to Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital. Sociodemographic characteristics, food supplements they used, and healthy eating behaviors of the individuals participating in the study were determined by a questionnaire consisting of 40 questions prepared by the researcher. The data were entered into the computer and the relationship between the variables was examined. Statistical significance level was accepted as p <0.05. Results: 389 individuals aged 18 and over who applied to Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic of Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital and accepted to participate in the study were included. 42.7 % of the participants had used food supplements in the last 12 months. The food supplements used by the participants were determined as vitamin D, vitamin B12, multivitamins, green tea, iron and probiotics, respectively. A significant difference was found between individuals' age, gender, chronic disease status, smoking status and their use of food supplements. In the study, the most common reasons for people to use food supplements were determined as strengthening the immune system, iron or vitamin deficiencies, protecting their health and protection from diseases. Conclusion: In our study, the use of food supplements of the participants was found to be high. Family physicians, who provide comprehensive care to individuals throughout their lives, are in the most important position in protecting and improving health. Therefore, family physicians should ask patients about their using of nutritional supplements, give information about their side effects and make recommendations about a balanced diet.
