Abstract
This study was carried out to determine monthly and seasonal changes of harpacticoid fauna living in soft substrata of upper infralittoral region along Sinop Peninsula coasts of the Black sea and their interactions with environmental parameters. As a result of three replicate sample collection by sediment tube corer between August 2009-July 2010 at 8 stations with depths of 3 and 10 meters, a total of 2834 individuals belonging to 92 species and 8 subspecies and 21 families were determined. 49 of these species are new records to Turkish Black Sea fauna whereas 25 species are new to Turkish fauna.Miraciidae was found to rank first with 30 species among the identified families and it was followed by Ectinosomatidae with 9 species, Laophontidae with 7 species, Ameiridae and Cletodiade with 6 species, and Leptopontiidae, Cylindropsylidae and Dactylopusiidae, each with 5 species. As a result of this study, the highest number of mean individuals was recorded in June (42984 ind/m2) and the lowest in February (6368 ind/m2). As the seasons are compared in terms of diversity and evenness index values, summer yielded the highest mean of diversity value (H´=1.19), and winter showed the lowest mean of evenness value (H´=0.96). In general, the results demonstrated that the sediment particle size and porosity (the space among sediment particles) were the main environmental factors which affect the similarity among stations. Keywords: Crustacea, Harpacticoida, Black Sea, Fauna, Ecology.
