Abstract
Objective: The number of multicultural individuals increase in societies. Measuring the cultural competencies of healthcare providers become increasingly important in order to provide quality health care services to these individuals. The purpose of this study is to adapt the Healthcare Provider Cultural Competence Instrument into the Turkish language and to test its validity and reliability. Methods: A total of 375 nurses were included in the methodological study. An information form containing descriptive questions prepared by the researchers and Healthcare Provider Cultural Competence Instrument was used in data collection. In determining the reliability of the scale, exploratory factor analysis is performed to test the validity of Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: The Cronbach alpha value of the sub-dimensions of the scale is between 0.79 and 0.94. This range indicates that the reliability of the scale is high. The scale item-total score correlations range from 0.43 to 0.85, and all items are in line with the theoretical structure. The factor loadings of the sub-dimensions of the scale ranged from 0.43 to 0.86, and the total variance explained was 54.8%. Conclusion: The Healthcare Provider Cultural Competence Instrument psychometric properties were found to be highly valid and reliable. It can be applied to measure the cultural competencies of individuals working in all disciplines of the health field.
