Abstract

The role of glass in art is examined through its technical, aesthetic, and symbolic aspects, emphasizing its transparency and interaction with light. This study explores the historical development of glass art, techniques used, and artists' aesthetic approaches. Using a qualitative research method based on literature review, the artistic function ofglass is analyzed. The light transmittance of glass, its impact on form and space perception, and its creative possibilities are discussed. Findings reveal that glass is not only an aesthetic material but also a symbolic means of expression. Especially in stained glass, sculpture, and installation art, the relationship between glass and light enhances artistic expression. By leveraging transparency, artists manipulate light to create dynamic visual effects, altering spatial perception. Glass is widely used in both traditional and contemporary art, from architecture to sculptures. It is concluded that glass enriches aesthetic, narrative, and spatial dimensions while requiring technical mastery. Future innovations in glass art are expected to expand with evolving techniques and artistic approaches.
