Abstract

Proteins constitute essential nutritional components for the body, serving numerous crucial functions. For individuals engaged in physical exercise, proteins are considered vital for facilitating muscle repair and growth, enhancing physical performance, providing energy, boosting metabolic rate, and reducing recovery time. Research on both animal models and humans demonstrates that protein utilization can contribute to dietary protocols and the amelioration of physio-biological parameters. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that excessive protein consumption can adversely affect both athletic performance and overall health. Consequently, the type and quantity of protein used must be tailored to individual characteristics, objectives, sports disciplines, and the intensity and nature of the training regimen. This chapter provides information on the relationship between protein utilization and exercise, methodologies of protein use, and the impact of protein on athletes. The insights presented here aim to support research on protein application and its influence on sporting performance. © 2026 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
