Cumhuriyet Kent Kimliğine Ankara'dan Bakmak: Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi Mekânlarının Değişim Algısı

Abstract

Kent ticaretin ve sanayinin geliştiği bir yerleşim alanıdır. Kent ve kentli yurttaşlar arasında bir ilişki vardır. Bu ilişki kent kimliklerini etkilemektedir. Her kentin kendine özgü bir kent kimliği bulunmaktadır. Kent kimlikleri kentin ve toplumun özelliklerinden oluşmaktadır. Kentin doğal ve yapay özellikleri ve toplumun kültürel, ekonomik, siyasal değerleri kent kimliği etkilemektedir. Kent kimlikleri sürekli değişip gelişen ya da yok olan bir yapıdadır. Kentteki bir mekânın değiştirilmesi ya da yitirilmesi kent kimliğini etkilemektedir. Aynı biçimde, kent ve birey arasındaki ilişkinin azalmasıyla birlikte, kentler kimliklerini yitirmektedir. Bu nedenle, kent kimliklerinin korunması kent için oldukça önemlidir. Bu araştırmada Ankara'da günümüzde yaşayan bireylerin Cumhuriyet'i simgeleyen mekânlarla ilgili düşünceleri konu edilmiştir. Bu amaçla Ankara'da Cumhuriyet'i simgeleyen mekânlardaki değişim ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada iki hipotezin doğruluğu sınanmıştır. İlk hipotez, 'Cumhuriyet mekânlarında bir değişim olmuştur.' yargısıdır. Diğer bir hipotezse Ankara'da Cumhuriyet'i simgeleyen mekânlardaki değişimin kentin kimliğini etkilediğine yöneliktir. Araştırmada konuyla ilgili kaynak taraması ve anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Anket sonucunda ulaşılan veriler tablo ve şekiller kullanılarak yorumlanmıştır. Kaynak taraması ve anketle değiştiği saptanan mekânlar yerinde gözlemlenmiş ve görsel yöntemlerle belgelenmiştir. Anket çalışmasıyla ulaşılan veriler sosyolojik olarak Lefebvre'nin mekânın üretimi kavramıyla yorumlanmıştır. Anket çalışmasının sonucuna göre katılımcılar çok az bir farkla Cumhuriyet'i simgeleyen mekânların değişmediğini düşünmektedir. Katılımcılardan elde edilen anket sonucuna göre bu mekânlardaki değişimin Ankara kent kimliğini olumsuz etkileyeceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu bulgu kaynak taramasıyla da desteklenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, bulgulara göre Ankara'da Cumhuriyet mekânlarının korunması kent kimliği için önemlidir, çünkü Cumhuriyet mekânlarında yaşanan değişimler kent kimliğini de değiştirecektir. Son olarak, bulgular Lefebvre'nin mekânın üretimi ve kent kimliği kavramları ve kimliksizleşmenin kentlilere etkileri üzerinden yorumlanmıştır. There is an interaction between the city and citizens. This relationship influences urban identities. Every city has a unique urban identity. Urban identities comprise the characteristics of the city and society. The natural and artificial characteristics of the city and the cultural, economic and political values of the society influence the urban identity. Urban identities are always changing, developing or disappearing. Changing or losing a place in the city influences the city identity. Likewise, cities lose their identities together with the decreasing relationship of the city and individuals. Therefore, protecting urban identities is very substantial for the city. The topic of this research is the ideas of Ankara residents about the places that symbolise the Republic. The study aims to reveal the change in these symbolic places in Ankara. Quantitative research method was used and two hypotheses were tested. The first hypothesis is the claim that 'there has been a change in the places of the Republic'. The second hypothesis is that the change in the places that symbolise the Republic in Ankara influenced the city's identity. The survey data were interpreted by using tables and figures. The places identified through literature review and survey as having changed were observed on spot and documented through visual methods. The survey data were interpreted sociologically with Lefebvre's concept of the production of space. According to the survey outcome, the participants think that the places that symbolise the Republic have not changed with a very small difference. It is also found that the change in these places will negatively influence Ankara's urban identity. This finding was also supported by literature review. As a result, the protection of the Republican spaces in Ankara is important for the city identity, because changes in the Republican spaces will also change the city identity. Finally, these findings were interpreted through Lefebvre's production of space and city identity concepts and thinking about the influence of an identity loss on urban citizens.
