Ortaokul Sosyal Bilgiler Ders Kitaplarında Toplumsal Cinsiyet

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı, Talim Terbiye Kurulunun izniyle ortaokullarda okutulan Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarının içeriklerini toplumsal cinsiyet açısından incelemektir. Bu çerçevede 5,6 ve 7. Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarındaki görseller ve metinler belli kategorilere göre incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın veri analizi 'İçerik Çözümlemesi' yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çocuk ve yetişkin figürlerin hangi eylemler içerisinde oldukları, hangi mekânlarda ve hangi nesnelerle birlikte oldukları incelenmiştir. Ayrıca metinlerdeki ana ve yan karakterlerin cinsiyet dağılımına bakılmış ve metinlerde toplumsal cinsiyet açısından dikkat çeken hususlar irdelenmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgular incelendiğinde metin ve görsellerde erkeklerin kadınlara göre daha fazla yer aldığı görülmüştür. Çocuklar açısından bakıldığında ise büyük bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Meslekler açısından da cinsiyete dayalı bir ayrım görülmüştür. Kadınlar daha çok öğretmenlik ve hemşirelik gibi mesleklerde gösterilmiştir. Erkekler ise daha çok mühendislik, iş adamlığı gibi mesleklerde öne çıkmıştır. Sonuç olarak, Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında açık bir şekilde görülmese de toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliğinin yeniden üretildiği görülmektedir. The purpose of this study is to examine the contents of the Social Studies textbooks which are taught in secondary schools with the permission of the Ministry of National Education. In this context, visuals and texts in Grade 5,6 and 7th Grade Social Studies textbooks were examined according to certain categories. Data analysis of the research was performed by 'Content Analysis' method. Child and adult figures in which they act, in which places and with which objects they were examined. In addition, the gender distribution of the main and sub-characters in the texts was examined and the issues that were notable in terms of gender were examined. When the findings obtained in the study are examined, it is seen that the text and the visuals are more than men. In terms of children, there was no significant difference. There was also a gender-based distinction in terms of professions. Women are mostly shown in professions such as teaching and nursing. Men are more prominent in professions such as engineering and workmanship. As a result, it is seen that gender inequality has been reproduced even though it is not clearly seen in the Social Studies textbooks. Keywords: Textbook, Gender, Sexism, Gender Roles
