I ABSTRACT THE INFLUENCE OF NASAL RESISTANCE ON PERFORMANCE OF SPORTSMEN WHO TAKE ISOMETRIC, CONSANTRIC AND EXANTRIC EXERCISE Özgür ÖZKAYA, Master Thesis Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, January 2005 The aim of this study is to see the influence of nasal resistance on performance. After the elimination of the group who have nasal patalogy, the study was made with the participation of 40 voluntary elite sportsmen consisted of 21 women and 19 men, at the age of 18-21 (19,45 ±1,52 years), at Ondokuz Mayıs University Sportsmen Healthcare Service. Acoustic rhinometry measurements were made for the nasal resistance. Its influances on performance were tried to be seen by looking at exercise pulse, sistolic and diatolic blood pressure, and post-exrecise plasma lactat concentration. The studies made at exantric and concantric phases were searched as dinamic studies and eliptic was used. In this point of view we had the chance to see the influences of a device which is not met so often in the literature. Static exercises were done with 'biceps curll' an free weights were used. On the other hand, as a criteria, sacarine test was made to the group before and after the exercise in order to research the reaction that the mucosiliar movement gives to the exercise. At the and of the study the datas were evaluated by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) statistic package program, oneway anova analysis and t- test.According to the results; the use of external nasal dilator strip had a direct enlarging effect in nasal valve area (p<0,01). With its possitive effects on blood lactate and latening effect on tirednes, low levels of lactate concantration at quite meaningful rates were provided for the standart exercise which was done without using ENDS (p<0,05). If stable levels are considered for the changing lactate concantration, it can be said that tired ness occurs later in the functions of respiratory muscles. Though there hasn't been a significant statistical decrease, there is a decrease for both two test types when pulse values and blood pressure averages are taken (p>0,05). A high coleration was found (p<0,01) in the results of sacarinvu test used as the indicator of nasal clerence, and found that the ephor fastnes the siliar movement. As a result, use of ENDS can be suggested considering av these high colerated results. They are the sportsmen and the trainers who will evaluate all results and give the last decision.
