Abstract
In this thesis, the effect of atmospheric oscillations on the annual maximum rainfall values of 14 standard ranges (5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300, 360, 480, 720, 1080 ve 1440 minutes) for 16 stations (Amasya, Çorum, Ordu, Samsun, Sinop, Tokat, Artvin, Bolu, Kastamonu, Rize, Düzce, Giresun, Bayburt, Bartın, Gümüşhane, Zonguldak) in the Karadeniz Region was investigated. In this context, the correlation coefficients of global atmospheric indices (AO (Arctic Oscillation), NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation), SO (Southern Oscillation) and NCP (North Sea Caspian Pattern)) with standard period precipitation were calculated. These correlations were evaluated by Student t test according to significance levels α = 0.01, α = 0.05 and α = 0.10. As a result of these assessments; AO oscillation has been found to be effective on precipitation data of Çorum, Artvin, Rize and Bartın stations. In particular, significant correlations were determined at all standard times at Artvin station. Significant correlations were found between the NAO index and standard duration rainfall in Çorum, Sinop, Artvin, Rize and Bayburt stations. The effects of SO oscillation on rainfall intensity data were examined and significant correlations were found only for Sinop. It was observed that the NCP index was effective on medium and long-term precipitation in only 3 stations (Bartin, Bayburt and Gümüşhane) when the relationship between NCP indices and standard timeframe precipitation of 16 stations was examined.
