Türkiye'de İlkokul ve Ortaokul Düzeyindeki Devlet Okullarında Okutulan İngilizce Ders Kitaplarında Bulunan Kök Değerlerin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, metinlerdeki, fotoğraflardaki ve ses dosyalarındaki kök değerleri araştırmak ve değerlerin frekanslarını göstermektir. Bu çalışmada, Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu Başkanlığı tarafından 2018 - 2019 eğitim öğretim yılından itibaren 5 (beş) yıl süreyle kullanımına kabul edilen 2-8. sınıflar İngilizce ders kitapları kullanılmıştır. Araştırma nitel bir çalışma olup, araştırma deseni olarak doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. On kök değer MEB tarafından yayınlanan 'Değerler ve Değerlere İlişkin Tutumlar ve Davranışlar' tablosu ışığında incelenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır. Kişisel yanlılığı önlemek ve çalışmanın güvenilirliğini artırmak için bulgular, çalışma boyunca üç deneyimli İngilizce Öğretimi araştırmacısına uzman kanısına sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda 2-5. sınıflar İngilizce ders kitaplarında en yaygın değer, arkadaşlık değeri iken, 6-8. sınıflar İngilizce ders kitaplarında ise sorumluluk değerinin en yaygın değer olduğu belirlenmiştir. Dürüstlük değeri 2–3. sınıflar İngilizce ders kitaplarında bulunamazken, 8. sınıf ders kitabında en düşük değerdir. Değerlerin toplam frekansı, 7. ve 8. sınıf İngilizce ders kitapları hariç, 2. sınıf İngilizce ders kitaplarından sonraki sınıf ders kitaplarına doğru artmaktadır ve en yüksek toplam değer sayısı 420 olarak 6. sınıf İngilizce ders kitabında bulunmuştur. 2. ve 3. sınıf İngilizce ders kitaplarında değerler daha çok fotoğraflarda verilirken, 4-8. sınıflar İngilizce ders kitaplarında değerler daha çok metinlerde verilmektedir. The purpose of this study is to investigate the key values in the texts, photos, and audio files and to show the frequencies of the values. In this study, 2nd–8th grade English language textbooks accepted for use by the Board of Education for 5 (five) years starting from the 2018 - 2019 academic year were used. The study is qualitative research, and document analysis was used as the research design. The ten key values were examined in the light of the table 'Values and Attitudes and Behaviors Related to Values' published by the MoNE. The descriptive analysis approach was used for data analysis. The findings were broached to three experienced ELT researchers throughout the study to prevent personal bias and increase the study's reliability. As a result of the study, the value of friendship is the most common in 2nd–5th grade English language textbooks. In contrast, the value of responsibility is the most common in 6th-8th grade English language textbooks. The value of honesty is not found in the 2nd and 3rd grade English language textbooks, and it is the least used value in the 8th grade textbook. The total frequency of the values rises from 2nd grade English Language textbooks to the following grades textbooks except for 7th and 8th grade English language textbooks, and the highest total number of values was found as 420 in the 6th grade English textbook. The values are mostly given in the photos in the 2nd and 3rd grade English language textbooks, while in the 4th–8th grade English language textbooks, the values are mostly given in the texts. As a result of the study, it is noteworthy that the values are not given homogeneously. Keywords: values education, key values, English language textbooks
