Introduction: The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of HIV/AIDS patients clinical features and disease complications. Methods: From January 2003 through October 2005, 27 patients with HIV/AIDS admitted to Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, Ondokuz Mayis University Hospital were enrolled in this study. Results: The initial CD4 count was <350/mm(3) in 16 cases. The major route of transmission was sexual. On admission, 6 cases with HIV infection had an opportunistic infection. The mortality rate was 11%. Discussion: In conclusion, HIV/AIDS is a serious infectious disease with regard to transmission and several clinical features. We believe that sharing experiences on HIV/AIDS in Turkey where the prevalence is low, would be beneficial.en_US
