Abstract
ABSTRACT INVESTIGATION OF EFFECTS OF ISOFLURANE AND SEVOFLURANE ANESTHESIA IN PHEASANTS Objective: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the effects of isoflurane (ISO) and sevoflurane (SEVO) anesthetics on the physiological and biochemical parameters of the pheasants (Phasianus colchicus). Material and Method: The study material consisted of 32 adult (16 female and 16 male) pheasants. Pheasants were divided into 2 anesthesia groups as ISO (n = 8 female + 8 male) and SEVO (n = 8 female + 8 male).100% oxygen and anesthetic material were given by mask for induction and after intubation, they were connected to the anesthesia device. Blood samples were taken during preanesthesia and postanesthesia to determine biochemical values. The measure of physiological values and depth of anesthesia criteria were recorded at preanesthesia, 0 th min., 15 th min., 30 th min., 45 th min., 60 th min. and at the time of recovery. Results: In the ISO and SEVO groups, the mean value of the minimum anesthetic concentration (MAC) was determined as 0.88% and 0.35%, respectively. When the effects of isoflurane and sevoflurane anesthesia were evaluated, it was concluded that pedal reflex, jaw reflex and palpebral reflex could be used as deep anesthesia criteria. There was no statistical difference in Hct evaluations in both groups and gender. In the isoflurane group, creatinine (CRE) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) values in males and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) values in females were found to decrease. Increase in creatinine (CRE) and decrease in cholesterol (CHO) in male pheasants, and a decrease in the total protein (TP) value in females were determined in the group of sevoflurane. Conclusion: As a result of these studies, it was concluded that both isoflurane and sevoflurane could be safely used in pheasants in an inhalation anesthesia.
