Direct liquid feed fuel cells (DLFFCs) seem to have potential fields especially for portable and mobile applications when compared to hydrogen-based fuel cells. The type of liquid used strongly affects the electrocatalyst and materials typically used in the fuel cells. The performance of the DLFFC also affected by the electrolyte type is either anion exchange or cation exchange membranes. This chapter summarizes the uncommonly used liquids for fuel cell applications given in the literature including 2-propanol, ethylene glycol, ascorbic acid and ascorbate and also some blended fuels. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
